Specialty Crops Inspection High School Student Intern Program

The Specialty Crops Inspection (SCI) Division began a program in 2014 to encourage high school students to consider a career with AMS.  The program seeks high school students for internships in regions where SCI has traditionally experienced difficulty filling agricultural commodity grader and other positions.

The program was first launched in New York, New York with John Brown High School in Queens.   The pilot program resulted in two student internships at the Hunts Point Terminal Market in the Bronx.  Deemed a success by the students, the high school and the SCI Bronx Office, the SCI High School Student Intern Program was continued and expanded the following year.

In 2015, the program was continued with John Browne High School and expended to WB Saul High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences in Chicago, Illinois.   In 2015, with two internships per high school, a total of six internships were filled in three cities.

In 2016, the program will be expanded to include Booker T. Washington High School and Cesar E. Chavez High School, both in Houston, Texas.

If you are a student at any of the above listed high schools and are interested in applying for a Specialty Crops Inspection Internship, please consult with your high school counselor for additional information.
